Notes About The Videos

EDBM played at The Musician for the first time on 20 May, 2003. Having spent a year or more searching for a bass player, it was after this gig that drummer Skip Undo (Big Pete/Peter Gregory) announced he was leaving. He told me it was because I wanted to move into the area of 'conducted improvisation' but I can't help wonder if he just got fed up with me berating him whenever he fucked up (see start of part 2). Skip leaving was a blow, but at least he went out on a high! This gig showed how good we were getting. New songs, like 'Jordan's Tits' were still a bit rough in places but the coloured dots pieces were tight as ever.

The versions of 'Post-caringism' (15 July, 2002) and 'Coloured Dots II' (some time later) were both recorded at The Charlotte.

The 'Council Wife' video is stupid video to a stupid song recorded in 1998/99. This is from Evil's CD Coprophagism.

Free Lab Rats were free improvisation gigs that took place in Leicester in 2007. I don't think most of the players understood what free improvisation is but it was great having a go. Leicester's Misterlee organised the first event (3 April 2007) and most of the third (31 July 2007). I organised the second one (called '3 Crab Bats' because I don't think free improvisation is experimental) when we forgot to have an audience. The first two clips above were recorded at the first event. The third was recorded at the third.

Jesus Pomegranate has been described as "A faithful adaptation of Sergei Parajanov's indigestion-fueled dream after watching REM's 'Losing My Religion' video. Note particularly the crisis-moment from 0.39-0.40: It is the moment at which Jesus' impermeability to the pomegranate is pushed to the point of frenzy, corresponding to Pat Califia's research into the erotic charge of leather, Jacques Lacan's reason for sexuality's stress on rims, Hegel's conception of beauty, and Adorno, nb 'the very opposition between knowledge which penetrates from without and that which bores from within becomes suspect to the dialectical method, which sees in it a symptom of precisely that reification which the dialectic is obliged to accuse.' This also corresponds to the moment of Parajanov's inner flux upon eating pineapple pizza."
